These students attend a public school in San Francisco, where the diversity is immense in all aspects. Students come to our school with varying socio-economic backgrounds, differing English language acquisition levels, special needs, and childhood experiences. Because all students think and learn differently, it is very important to be able to reach all students at their learning level. Our city is full of wonderful sights to see with lots of places and history to learn about, yet, our school may not have the adequate resources to bring the vibrant city life to the classrooms.
Students benefit from seeing colorful and engaging pictures that can help teach them about the many different themes and genres of the world they live in.
Pictures can speak more than a thousand words to students of all backgrounds, language levels, family experiences, and learning abilities. With bright pictures around their school and classroom, their childhood and school experience can immediately transform into a haven of quicker learning and exciting moments.
My Project
Having colorful pictures print out quickly when they need it can help my students learn about the world in the same way they see it - in color! Having Social Stories written and created with colorful pictures will keep them engaged and interested in what they are learning about. Visual schedules in color, visual mini-lessons in color, instruction cards for completing TEAACH tasks independently in color, will all help to provide a more accurate representation of what they are expected to do. Because many of my students may have delayed fine motor skills that impact their ability to color pictures neatly inside lines, having a picture already in color can help to provide the correct visual support they need to succeed.
A color printer will help alleviate the stresses of having to color in a picture, making correlations to their natural environment more accurate.
They will have opportunities to learn correct color associations with pictures if they have the same visual representation in front of them to copy. Having a colorful classroom helps grab their attention for a more fulfilling classroom experience.
