This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our media center is the center of learning with a diverse population. Our students visit the library every day for a variety of reasons, and we want to continue to serve them with quality books, technology, and experiences.
ERD is an urban school that serves over 850 students with a diverse population of many cultures.
We are a Title I school where 100% of our population is on free lunch. Located near a college we have students from may different ethnic backgrounds.
The students were so excited when I told them my plans for this project. My students are always excited to try new things and this project has them energetic.
My Project
Makerspace centers are the up and coming trends in library media centers. The library is a place of learning and not just reading a book. Our media center is striving to increase critical thinking skills by incorporating robotics and coding in makerspace centers in the media center. We have recently set up collaboration centers for students to use to collaborate and create projects. Our focus is to now individualize learning through the use of innovative learning centers. These centers will have assigned standards that incorporate coding and technological manipulatives to answer higher order and critical thinking skills.
Through the use of the Osmos program, Ozbots, and Code-a-pillar students from Pre-K - 5th grade will be able to learn how to code and have access to innovative learning centers that support STEM and STEAM objectives.
Students using an iPad and manipulatives will have hands-on learning through technology and increase higher order thinking skills to accomplish tasks.
Students who may not be strong in academics may find a career path in coding and robotics through the makerspace centers in the library media center.
