This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.
About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.
My Project
I am asking for cleaning supplies for my classroom. I love my classroom, it is bright, cheery and welcoming, but it can get very dirty. In our school, we have a shortage of cleaning staff and cleaning supplies. Most days, our classroom doesn't get cleaned unless my students and I clean it. And I don't have the proper supplies to continue to make sure that the room is clean and ready for my students to learn. I'm requesting cleaning supplies, including Lysol wipes and cleaner, an OXO mop bucket, a sweep set and dust pan, and a Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner, to help keep our classroom clean.
I want to provide a clean, healthy classroom for my students.
I am hoping to get these supplies so that our classroom can be cleaned daily.
