My students need a clean classroom for the best learning experience they can have!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The school that I teach at is in Southeast Michigan and has about 1,100 students. My students attend a public high school with about 70% living at or below the poverty line and qualifying for free and reduced price lunch.
I teach a Math and Science classroom for students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder or a Cognitive Impairment.
The students that you will provide for in this grant are fourteen to eighteen years old and live in an urban area in South East Michigan. These students are struggling with academics and have IEPs, Individualized Education Plans, or more typically are referred to as special education students.
This is a small grant that I am writing for some very small, but very important items to the classroom. Although we do have a maintenance staff here that cleans the floor each night and changes the garbage, we still have a lot of surfaces that need attention. We use the disinfectant wipes for many things in the class on a daily basis. We need spray cleaners for the desks and a separate spray cleaner for the white boards. If you do not use the special cleaner for the white board it strips off the coating and makes it difficult to erase the markers with time.
These small items can make a huge impact in a classroom.
When students are distracted with a dirty desk or cannot see the board clearly it is hard to focus on their learning. Students with special needs, working at a cognitively impaired education level, are distracted even easier.
