A Classroom Without Doors!

Help me give my students learn about diversity. It helps our students with the garden to measure and keep data on the water ph. The books help us teach using mentor text that are at their levels

My Students

My students become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Our students are compassionate, innovative and creative. They are empathetic and are always willing to go over and beyond. The seek problem we face in our school and community and look for a solution which later turns into a service or civil action plan they create themselves. They excel and have learned to take ownership of what they do.

What I love about my students is that no matter the obstacles.

They struggle thru and thru in all subjects but found that working in the garden and building their own raised beds helped them build confidence. Every student gets a chance to teach the younger students all about what they learned and researched. Each student becomes a mentor and a good role model.

My Project

We teach using a multisensory approach, we use technology to integrate math, science and language arts in the garden. Our students construct structures using real-life math. The mentor text are used to guide students to be successful and bump in the rigor based on their instructional reading level. We encourage students to be more critical thinkers and help motivate them that even if the classroom may be a struggle, we can still use their expertise in a different environment. When things are given to them using a hands-on approach it helps our students. What we learn, plant and harvest. They use math skills to cook using the plants from the garden. They study the benefits of each plant and as long as it relates to the real-world experience they are extremely eager to get their hands dirty.
