My Students

I work in a small school where I teach about 55 sixth graders. Many of our students have not had the opportunity to get ahead early in life. They love positive attention and thrive when they realize they are succeeding. The best part of my day is seeing the "lightbulbs" being turned on whenever they have mastered a new concept.

Over 60% of my sixth grade students are considered as having a low socioeconomic status.

All students in the school receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school serves students in PreKindergarten through 8th grade. I consider our school to be a true community school because everyone is involved in helping the students. The mission of our school is to provide a safe and empowering learning environment, for every student, every time.

My Project

My classroom has recently been renovated due to bad tiling and asbestos. Students have had to use the same, old, broken desks for the last five years I've been at Cedar Grove Middle School (and many years before). I'd love to give my students the opportunity to utilize brand new tables in their newly renovated classrooms.

Not only will the tables be safe and visually pleasing, but they will provide numerous functional purposes as well.

Students will be able to collaborate more easily- they can sit in close proximity to work together in small groups. Tables are easier to move around for different projects as opposed to desks. It will force students to be more organized. They will have to put their materials in bins right away, instead of shoving their supplies into desks. Tables are easier to keep clean. This will result in better cleanliness overall!
