My students need the Lots of Dots classroom rug so they can have their own individual space to sit in, and can focus their whole attention on the whiteboard.
I am a first year teacher about to start a lifelong journey of teaching. I have not met my first grade students yet, but I am so excited to see their smiling faces on the first day of school. Children at this age are eager to learn, excited to make new friendships, and can't wait to get their hands on engaging materials.
My school is located in a charming neighborhood where students come from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Many of my students will come from low income families, as we are a Title 1 school. I can't wait to see my students become readers, scientists, mathematicians, leaders, and much much more.
My Project
My students would greatly benefit from a classroom rug they can sit on while learning from the whiteboard. This particular classroom rug, with individual squares for each child, ensures that students can focus on the lesson, not on who they are sitting by.
When every child knows their spot on the rug, and understands the boundaries that come with it, there will be less behavior problems.
With assigned spots on the rug, I can prevent students fighting over who gets to sit by who. Every time we sit down, my students will know where they are expected to sit, and they will keep their hands and feet inside of their square.
This rug will be my tool in helping students stay engaged. I can use the colors to keep students motivated, by asking which row is going to sit the quietest today. Is it the blue row? The green row? When I create a friendly competition, the students in each colored row will try to sit their best. This rug will enhance our lessons, by reducing the amount of wiggling and increasing the focus on learning.
