This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the proud teacher of 25 fourth grade students! My students love to read and are eager to learn in new ways. Fostering the love of reading at an early age is an on-going challenge for many educators. It is my hope to prompt this love of reading through many different avenues.
Integrating technology into the classroom is my way of preparing my students for their ever changing world.
In a Title I school, where over 70% of students receive free or reduced lunch, access to technology is not often a priority. I would like to change this. Students learn best when they have the opportunity to explore their world. This exploration should extend beyond their own neighborhood. This can be achieved through the increased availability of technology.
My Project
I am hoping to expand on our classroom library by including a variety of text that will encourage and inspire inclusion and diversity, while motivating students to be free thinkers and accepting of all. Storybooks, such as The Rough-Face Girl and White Socks will foster the idea that students should focus on within rather than the outward appearance of others. Ada's Ideas and What To Do With a Box will promote a faith in one's ideas and ability to be creative.
Through literature, I know that I can help my students understand the importance of acceptance, the beauty of our uniquenesses, and the joy of coming together no matter our differences.
