A classroom for us! (Setting up a sensory enviroment for autistic students!)
The cost of these sensory aids is $810, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
I teach a class of 6-8 autistic students. The class is part of a Title 1 school and all my students receive free lunch. We are located in a trailer, which doesn't exactly meet our needs. Just like other special education classes we are always the after thought as far as budgeting. The budgets are not able to include many items for a sensory classroom.
The items I am asking for will allow the classroom to assist the students in relaxation, calming, focus, communication, and improve their ability to learn. This will minimize distractions from the work in front of them. My autistic students are constantly seeking sensory input in many different ways, most of which are not conducive to learning. Our students will use these items either to keep their attention on a teacher during a group activity and not on their body's lack of sensory input or will be used in a regularly scheduled sensory time in which the students will focus on a sense-based activity. To create our new sensory environment we need:
1. 8- Concentration Cushions
2. 6- Cozy Shades- Purple
3. 1- Find Me Tent
4. 1- Activity Bin Set
5. 1- Squishy Ball Set- Set 1
6. 1- Lighted Fountain with Rocks
7. 1- Multi-Colored Rainstick
8. 1- SeeThrough Tunnel
9. 2- Spot Markers Sets
10. 1- Fidget Ball Set
All of these items will not only benefit our current 6-8 students but will continue to benefit our future students. Our students will increase their concentration and levels of learning due to your generosity! Thank you!
