My students are not only hungry, but they are hungry to learn and create on a daily basis. At our Title I school, all students receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.
My students face many challenges.
Many are from single family homes or from military families. Many of my students' families can't afford basic school supplies for their children, such as pencils, paper, or even materials needed to complete classroom reports. Despite these challenges, they are eager and ready to learn.
My students have struggled at home and it is my job to make sure they are able to accomplish what they wish in school. One thing I would like to do this year is to provide my students with a classroom that serves as an escape from whatever they are dealing with outside of school, space where they feel happy, safe, and loved.
My Project
Our classroom is hoping to get a carpet to use on a daily basis in the classroom. The children would be called to the carpet for a whole and small group, and even just to look at a book if they want to. Even in third grade, I still feel having students join together on the carpet instead of just sitting at their desks, makes a difference in the lesson. It would be very helpful to have a new carpet, if possible! I teach 5th grade Math, so any way I can help my students stay less anxious and calmer during this time, I'm going to do it! 5th-grade math can get fairly complex with the students doing more with fractions, decimals, and multiplication than ever before. If the students are in an environment that is helping their learning needs get met then I am all for doing what I can to help them all learn and reach their full potential.
Because the children will be on the carpet every day, I want a carpet that is clean, inviting and something that I wouldn't feel bad for the children to be sitting on.
You should be able to feel proud of everything in the classroom. The classroom rug will be well used and loved. Thank you for helping my classroom! A classroom rug is a gift that will keep on giving, for many years to come. I know my third graders will greatly appreciate it!
