Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from very hard-working families living at a high poverty level. Our school has one of the highest rates of poverty and need in our entire district. We are 100% free breakfast & lunch. Many families cannot afford school supplies, let alone supplemental intervention materials to support their students at home. You can make a difference in my students' lives by donating for a class iPad. In our class we take our literacy very seriously; however, most of my students struggle with many aspects of literacy; phonics, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, & comprehension. Our literacy centers are designed to provide meaningful small group instruction and activities that are student-driven which results in deeper student learning as well as active engagement of the students. This iPad will take us to new and powerful places!
My students work very hard at their academics and they deserve to have the extra support and resources they need to close the achievement gap.
It is my belief that every student, regardless of background, deserves the same opportunities as the next. Help us get there by donating for a classroom iPad. Thank you so much! This means more than you know.
My Project
We spend the majority of our ELA block in small group instruction and activities. I have found this is one of the most powerful ways to help my students grow exponentially. Our literacy centers are currently comprised of planned and prepped materials I have printed, laminated, cut, copied, and organized.
Literacy Centers are the heart of our classroom.
Recently, I have discovered literacy centers revolving around the use of iPad tablets. These literacy centers are focused on high-need areas of literacy my students need the most help with. I also intend to use this iPad to aid in English language development for my ELL students.
Using iPad tablets in literacy centers brings about a whole new level of engagement, enjoyment, and intentionality. Kids love electronics and it is my hope and expectation this iPad will make a world of difference in our literacy.
