The 28 multicultural children who I spend most of my day with are extremely hardworking and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates.
My students are also a very giving group.
Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.
My Project
The requested Chromebook will be used for online learning. There are many wonderful programs that help children learn basic skills they did not learn in kindergarten or first grade. The program Lexia is a reading program that evaluates the student, and then supplies lessons that will help to improve the deficits in their reading. Lexia also helps the students work on vocabulary, fluency, and word building. The program is effective and fun.
The Chromebook will also help to support children who are having difficulty with math.
The program First in Math starts with the very basics of math and progresses with different skills. The teacher is able to pick the online lessons, or the student may decide what they would like to do. There is the competitive side of the program that allows the children to see how many stickers they earn when finished with a particular game. First in Math promotes teamwork and a community of learners.
