Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We have a mentoring group called the Young Gentlemen's Club. The purpose of this club is to address the academic and social deficits that these young men face. The club seeks to expose the young men to a variety of experiences that will enrich their lives.

The Young Gentlemen's Club seeks to provide a remedy to the adverse childhood experiences that many of our students face.

Although the boys sometimes struggle in school. We operate from the perspective that you are better than your circumstances.

My Project

A trip to see this live production of "A Christmas Carol" will allow my students to learn the lessons of Mr. Scrooge and realize that it is never to late to turn around, if you are going down the wrong path.

Most of my students have never seen a live play.

This theatre company has been doing this production for over forty years. It is well done and will provide a lifelong memory. In the debrief of this performance, we will not only discuss what we saw but the behind the scenes things that made it happen.

It is hoped that viewing this performance will inspire the students to read the book and thereby increase literacy skills.
