I teach third grade students, ranging from ages 8 - 9 years old, in a large urban city. My students enter my classroom with a wide range of skill levels and general background knowledge about the world around them. They are energetic and brimming with excitement. They love to read, research, write, participate in science activities, and do mathematics. They work well in groups and enjoy field trips and exploring. Many of them are artistic and enjoy reflecting their understanding of concepts visually.
My students need a new cheerful, decorative rug to work on in my classroom. We come to the rug several times during the day for read aloud, math class, and morning meeting. The children also love to lay on the rug during silent reading or partner project time. A rug helps create a warm and welcoming environment and helps the classroom feel more like a home. Classrooms are noisy, busy places. A rug would help absorb some of the noise that is often distracting for small children. A new rug would last for years to come and would be enjoyed by many students.
