Our students are engaging, curious, intelligent, and most importantly, MUSICIANS!
Our students are energetic, thoughtful, creative, and wonderful music-makers.
I teach all two hundred eighty students at my elementary school, in addition to teaching around three hundred at the sister school (grades 3-5). These students come from a wide variety of cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, both schools are fully Title I.
Over twenty different countries are represented in our diverse student body, and many of our students speak two or more languages. Many of our students are English Language Learners and several students receive special education services.
Every day in music class, we sit on the floor so that we can actively make music through singing, chanting, moving, creating, performing, improvising, and playing instruments. We have an old oval carpet that does not fit all of the students. Our music room is in need of a new carpet in order to provide the best possible environment for our diverse, hard-working students.
My Project
The Round Note Worthy classroom rug that we are requesting is a durable, beautiful, high-quality carpet that will give our students many musical opportunities. Students will be able to visually explore music notation by using the music staff in the center of the rug. Students will be able to play games that encourage compositional creativity, note reading, and awareness of music notation. We could sit around the edge of the carpet for activities, use the rug as a guide for dances, or use the rug itself as a teaching tool!
Our worn-out carpet needs to be replaced with something that better suits the needs of our students.
We need a new rug to improve the safety of our classroom and promote spatial awareness and organization.
All students are musical, diverse, and special learners who deserve to have an environment in which they can safely create and musically explore. All students deserve to have an environment in their music classroom that is just as creative, expressive, and wonderful as they are!
