Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A calming space is so essential in a child's early years! We all need a calming space with bean bag chairs, fidget items and calming items when we get upset. Please help provide that special area for my students. The calming area will be a haven for my students to de-escalate their strong emotions. The calming items will allow students to work on identifying their emotions and practice calming techniques. My students have a range of needs that impact their ability to understand and self-regulate their emotions. We need this in our classroom.
My calming space will allow students who need frequent mental breaks or need a place to understand their emotions to go to as needed.
If my students know they have the option of going to the calming area, they may feel more at ease in my classroom. We need these materials and fidgets so the students can gain control. After using the calming space with one of the digital timers, students will be ready to think and learn again when they rejoin us in the classroom.
Having these calming space with materials readily available inside my classroom will make for a more whole-child teaching experience with a strong focus on mental health.
