Our school is full of energetic and creative students. My 500+ students love visiting our media center to find a new book, listen to a story, use the computers for a research project, code a robot, or design a craft in our makerspace. Many students drop in just because it is such a nice place to be! I strive to make it a stress-free zone. More than 72% of our students receive free or reduced priced lunch.
Our media program and space have been constantly evolving throughout my 17 years as media coordinator.
I want to offer my students a space where to take advantage of new digital learning opportunities alongside quality books. In this fast-paced world, it is essential that we offer calming spaces for our students.

My Project
Hygge is a Scandinavian term for creating an atmosphere of sanctuary, warmth and community. Our school will be undergoing a major renovation during the next school year and we will need hygge more than ever! This project will help turn the media center into a retreat during that renovation and for years to come. Our media center was recently painted with inviting colors. We would love to add new furniture that will provide a more cohesive (and calming) look.
My students have helped design an updated space for everyone to enjoy; they have requested new stools and soft seating.
The stools will be used at our community desk. Many students like to use this special spot and these stools would make it even more appealing. This upholstered chair will be a spotlight in our whole group area. My students love to share with others and being able to sit in this beautiful, soft chair will make it even more special. (Of course, sometimes you just want a nice place to curl up and read a book!)
This new furniture will help provide a calming oasis for my students. This will benefit them as they have a space to relax. Thank you for helping us reach our goal!
