When my students look good, they feel good about themselves. Fifth grade can be a hard transitioning year for young people as they begin to change and grow. Teaching them how to take care of themselves from brushing their teeth to using deodorant is an essential life skill.
My fifth grade students are excited to learn!
Whether they are learning about new fraction concepts or learning about their changing bodies, they are excited. Our school has a population that is over 83% At-Risk and many of the habits that my students learn, they will learn from school. Our children want to feel good and look good on a daily basis. They are young people with changing bodies and changing attitudes! Helping to create life long healthy habits is essential for these students.
My Project
My students will receive the resources such as toothpaste, deodorant, and lotion, after the life skills lessons are taught by our school counselor. They will be able to bring these products home to use, or even keep them in their backpacks for daily use at school. Our classroom will discuss good health habits, such as brushing your teeth, showering, using deodorant, and lotion on a daily basis. We will discuss how important it is to be clean and healthy, because when you look good, you feel good.
When my students receive these products, such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and lotion they will have the resources they need to begin healthy habits.
I believe that when you look good and feel clean, you have a more positive attitude about yourself and your learning. This will impact each and every student in my classroom. These children can begin every day with a bright, shiny smile!
