This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom consists of 24 independent, unique, and motivated 4th graders. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty district, my students are faced with many problems in and out of the classroom. Despite these difficult challenges, I hope to give my students a positive, creative, and meaningful classroom in which they can feel comfortable to be their best. I cannot control their home lives, or what they experience outside of the classroom, but I can control the experience they have within our school and hope to inspire them.
My classroom contains students with a mix of interests, abilities, and goals.
We are working to build a classroom community where we can work, learn, and grow together as scholars and as individuals. I know every student in my classroom has the ability to succeed and will do my best to help them strive towards greatness everyday.
My Project
My students spend a large part of their day on the carpet. We use the carpet as a central gathering place for our morning meeting, mini-lessons, whole group discussions, games, and so much more. Many of my students also choose to read and write on the carpet during independent reading and writing times as an alternative to sitting at their desk. Unfortunately, the carpet that we currently have has not held up to our class of 24 eager-to-learn students. It easily slides across the floor and is showing signs of wear and tear that are becoming safety concerns, such as rolled up edges.
By donating to our project, you'll be giving my students a safe and comfortable spot to engage in learning.
