Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am taking over my school's elementary life skills classroom. These kiddos are kindergarten through sixth grade and are special needs kids. I am super excited to take on this class and have been working all year to get my endorsement for special education. The downside is that my kiddos have had several teachers over the last several years and some teachers haven't even made it through the entire school year before leaving! I am walking in to a classroom that has few materials for my students, structural and cosmetic issues in the classroom, and little past consistency.
I am looking to make this the best year my students have had in years!
I am going to be working on fixing the room's damage, painting, and decorating starting on the last day of school in preparation for next year, but I need help with classroom materials!
My Project
I am setting up an elementary Life Skills classroom and need help getting materials like play dough, puppets, blocks, etc. to help with color recognition, counting, free play, and fine and gross motor skills. A play kitchen will help my students transition from play to making food in a real kitchen and learning this vital life skill.
My student's will be using these materials to learn fine motor skills, life skills, colors, numbers, gross motor skills, and in math and reading lessons.
I am wanting to create a classroom that my students will not only learn in, but be excited to come to and be a part of. Please help me provide this for them!
