Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For our students, school is a safe haven and a promise for a better future. By nurturing their minds with knowledge, resources and emotional fodder, we want them to dream and to achieve the "possible". We need your support for this.
Our K-8 school is located in one of the high crime neighborhoods in MA with over 90% of our K-8 students qualifying for free lunch and with about 97% of diverse student population.
Given the above statistics, our students have quite a few battles to fight. While the staff at our school provide the necessary educational and emotional support, we need your help with school supplies and resources. Having books of high interest, access to a time-timer, chrome books and iPads would go a long way in meeting our students needs.
My Project
Graduation is special event we would like to celebrate and honor the past accomplishments of our students and make memories. For the memories to last, we want to gift them care packages which would help them transition. While the autograph book will serve as a source of inspiration, the snacks, mint, deodorant and tissues would come in handy and useful for them to have a head start this summer.
Since 90% of our students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with severe social emotional and academic needs, qualifying for free lunch, we want them to celebrate their small achievements in the best way possible.
Through the list of items we have requested, we hope to make them feel special and cared for.
Transitioning to high school can be overwhelming. Most of them do not have any idea of basic etiquettes and can't afford to buy essentials. The care package would be a surprise gift to our graduating students. We want them to leave with a great memory and a positive start to their next phase of their life.
The toner for the printer would be very useful during the graduation ceremony for several purposes such as printing invitations, event list, thank you notes, speeches etc.. The care package will include essential items the 8th graders would use for the summer and an autograph book, written and signed by the school staff and friends which would serve as a source of encouragement for their future endeavors.
We need your help in brightening our students' day for they need to continue to believe that kindness still exists in the world.
