This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It's my first year as a teacher, and I have the pleasure of having my own self-contained special ed class. The students are on the autism spectrum and range from kindergarten to first grade. They are all on different academic and developmental levels; some are as low as toddler age and others are on grade level, but they all love to look at books.

I was lucky enough to inherit some books and a beanbag to make a library center in the classroom, but I'm missing the bookshelf.

Slowly, I have bought more books, a rug, and pillows to make it more cozy. Right now, I'm using a small bookshelf for the books, but it is not working.

There is no real order, and the books are thrown on the shelves. I have seen that my students want to read and look at the books, but they get overwhelmed when they see the clutter.

The shelf requested would be used instead of the makeshift shelf I have so that the students could have access to more books read and explore and so that they can learn to keep the center organized.
