This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Despite challenges my students seek to prove that they can do it! I am the only general education classroom (vs. bilingual) for 2nd grade. Over half of my students are labeled as economically disadvantaged. Slightly over 7% are special education students.

Despite the challenges my students occur in their daily lives, they want to prove that they can do it.

Each morning we ask, "Can we do it?" The response is a resound, "Yes we can." And they mean it.

My Project

My classroom does not have a collection of books for students to read. We work out of our reading text and students crave more. So setting up an area that students can read is important to me, especially in 2nd grade. While I've got the area - we don't have the books.

In second grade, students are learning to become fluent readers and told the Dr Seuss quote ... "The more you read, the more you know, the more you know, the more places you will go." We just need the resources so students know what it means to read for enjoyment.
