Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think about coming into a kindergarten classroom with students who have varied ethnic backgrounds and whose primary language is not English. These students often need extra support for learning English. They always manage to come to school with the biggest smiles on their faces. Every day, I teach my students the English language, as well as reading, writing and math concepts.

Many of these students do not have English language support at home.

I immerse them in the English language and help them become successful. My school prides itself on being able to bring students together for creative endeavors. With help from donors, we've already been able to fund multiple successful and engaging projects.

My Project

In kindergarten, my students are beginning to learn how to read. They are just starting to point to the words on the page and trying to look at the picture to help figure out the words. Each child gets to go book shopping in our A level bin. The problem that we have is that there are twenty-four children and not enough A books. Each child is supposed to go home with seven books each, to learn how to read. Right now, children can go home with three books each, which just isn't enough.

With your help, my students will be able to take more then three level A books home to help them learn to read.

These books will help my students learn to become readers. With having half of my class' population as ESL, learning with new books will help them learn the English language even more.
