My students are fourth graders. They all live in an urban area. Additionally, they are motivated, and eager learners that love to read. Because I teach in a bilingual program, half my students come from Francophone families, and the other half comes from Anglophone families. They cooperate and support each other in learning how to read, write, and express themselves in two languages. By the end of elementary school, they will all be bilingual and bi-literate in French and in English.
My Project
One of the most important things a teacher can do is to inspire students to become life-long lovers of books. With this project, I hope to give students access to books that speak to their interests and captivate their attention. With an extensive classroom library, I am certain the students will find something that shows them or reminds them there is joy to be found in reading. Additionally, we know that exposure to books and reading has many, many academic and life-long benefits. Our students are strong avid readers who need new books to explore and discuss. These books will enhance our classroom library. Students will be able to choose their own books, which will help them continue to learn and grow. Additionally, I am a firm believer that the books we read as children, creates a life long special bond with us that we remember and cherish for a long time, as well as allowing us to grow into inquisitive and creative learners.
