Help me give my students class sets of engaging books at their reading level. These books will be used to help students master grade level standards at their ability level.
I work with students in a cross-categorical Special Education classroom. Many of the students in my classroom come from low income households and difficult home lives. My students have a wide range of disability categories and learning needs. Each child's learning styles vary as well as their ability levels.
My students have a positive outlook on learning.
They love coming to school and are excited to learn new material. They challenge themselves daily. They are supportive of each other and work together to maximize their own and each other's learning.
My Project
These materials will provide my students with engaging books at their ability level. These books are challenging enough for students to make progress and gains in their basic reading skills. Students will build confidence and fluency as they read. Matching book to their level will provide an opportunity for the student to read with comprehension and relative ease, allowing students to gain understanding and enjoyment while they read. These materials will be implemented into literacy units to help students achieve an understanding of the 5th grade standards at their independent reading levels. Having appropriate materials will help foster a love for reading and encourage students to read independently.
