My students need fiction and nonfiction books that they can read at their independent levels and are focused on their interests.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Let's reach level M! My bilingual second graders love to read. In addition to learning the English language, they are also learning to read and increase their reading levels. Our classroom's door has a reminder that we want to exit second grade reading at an independent reading level M.
My enthusiastic, bilingual students come from homes where books and technology is not readily available.
All students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch. We are a high poverty school district. Our English language learners are from very low-income families. Books and other educational resources are not available for the students at their homes. However, my students do not lack motivation. In fact, they are resilient, funny, caring children who are very eager to read and learn.
My Project
Imagine how my students will react when they learn that this project has been funded and they will finally have the opportunity to select books to read in the classroom as well as at home for homework. Furthermore, the books will be based on their independent reading levels and their interests thus allowing them to fall in love with reading. My students will use the books in the classroom during independent reading times throughout the day. In addition, they will read at least one book a day for homework. They will demonstrate understanding of what they have read by completing differentiated reading responses. This daily routine will allow them to be motivated as they continue to progress on their reading levels. It is my hope and dream that all my students will be reading on grade level. I believe this can be achieved if the proper resources are available to them.
Donating to our classroom will help us grow to become better readers and students!
We believe that reading and responding to text on a daily basis will enhance learning in a tremendous way. Furthermore, these resources will build a strong foundation for literacy for my students.
