Help me give my students books they can enjoy in our classroom and books that they can take home every night! Just 15 minutes of reading per day can lead to accelerated reading growth.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are an enthusiastic group of third, fourth, and fifth graders who come to school every day excited to learn and experience new things. They have some background knowledge to bring to their learning, but we are working hard to build their understandings of difficult concepts every day.
My students are newcomers from Cape Verde who have limited or interrupted schooling.
They are learning so many things every day, including English, social skills, and so many academic skills. My rambunctious group of students love to work towards independence at reading and writing tasks. They enjoy working in and completing literacy centers, managing their own independent learning so that they can become stronger readers.
My Project
This project will help me build both my classroom library and my take home library available to students. It includes books about a variety of topics, in a variety of genres, ensuring that there will be something of interest for everyone. All students can have more of a choice in what they read.
My students are newcomers and emergent bilinguals, and often have limited resources of their own, which includes limited access to high quality or high interest books.
This project will help ensure that students have access to books that they can take home and enjoy every day. I've also selected the Scholastic Magazine subscription so that we can have experience with magazines and learning information in a different format.
