My Students

Our school is located at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Our school is very special; it is a K-12 building. Essentially, students can go their whole educational life and never leave our building until graduation. We are located in the middle of a small, but quaint, arts and crafts town. Three-fourths of our population receives free or reduced-price lunch and our poverty rate is higher than the state and national average. However, those obstacles are just that, obstacles that we must overcome. With hard work and determination, we can overcome any road block in our path. In our class, we address the hardships, embrace where we are at, look to where we are going, and celebrate when we get there!

My Project

During this uncertain time, I would love to put this book in the hands of my students. By giving one to each fifth-grade student of our elementary school, this will allow us to make meaningful online connections together while we are physically separated. I am currently reading a book aloud to students using an online platform.

How great would it be for each student to physically get a book that we can read and discuss together?

The book will be used to teach all English and literacy skills integrated into one book that is highly engaging and rigorous.
