My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Our goal as a school is to provide every child with an equal opportunity to be successful in the classroom. In addition, our school follows a social emotional learning (SEL) framework. We strive to equip each child with the necessary tools to manage and become self aware of their emotions.
My Project
In second grade, building reading stamina is a huge focus. Once a student is able to sit and read for an extended period of time, students can begin to focus on comprehension and thinking. Having book boxes for each child in my class will allow all kids to have books on their level at their fingertips! This way of organization creates differentiated learning for all students! My students love reading, but have no efficient way to organize their leveled books. Having these book boxes would allow my students to find a spot on the carpet, choose a book from their new book boxes, and read, read, read!
