Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I school, where 95% of the students come from a low-income household and 100% of the students receive free lunch. In a low-income, urban school district, my third grade students are faced with several challenges that affect their ability to learn and grow. Despite the hardships, I want to provide my students with deep, meaningful, and creative learning experiences.
My third graders are motivated learners who strive to grow each day.
My students come from different backgrounds, which means they all have different strengths and needs. I strive everyday to enhance their strengths and meet their needs. Although I can't change their backgrounds, I know I can help make a difference in their future by creating a positive learning experience in the classroom. My desire is for my students to be LIFELONG learners and find JOY in learning, both inside and outside of my classroom.
My Project
I have a very diverse group of students in my classroom who love to read. With the diversity comes a group of students who love reading different genre books. The range of my students' reading levels are very wide as well.
The diverse selection of books will target both my students' reading level and their genre interests.
With so many students and so many levels in one classroom, the students need many different books in their classroom library. All books that are in my classroom library are read and handled with love and care. The students always look forward to entering the classroom library! Reading is such a huge part of our everyday schedule: independent reading, buddy reading, read aloud, and more! With a diverse selection of books, my students will be able to enjoy and find enrichment in reading. The variety of books based on different levels will ensure that all students will have books that correlate to their levels.
