My Students
My class consists of 23 amazing 5th graders! In our classroom, we work on leadership skills, promoting healthy choices, and organizational skills that will get us ready for Middle School and the world after.
We are a classroom of voracious readers and we absolutely LOVE to gobble up books. We especially like to read historical fiction as a way of learning about the world around us.
My Project
To help my students learn social-emotional skills like social awareness, self-management, and responsible decision making, I am beginning a picture book a day challenge.
Our goal is to read 180 picture books this school year. That means that we will read a different picture book every day.
I am gathering books that celebrate diverse characters, activism, empathy, and emotions. These books will help my students grow as readers by teaching them how to discuss and think critically about a variety of topics. Each book is chosen with a lesson in mind to help my young readers grow academically as well as socially.
