Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in my special education classroom for majortiy of their school day. For many of my students, they are diagnosed with a wide range of disabilities including developmental delays, Autism, ADD-ADHD, Emotionally Disturbed, and Intellectual Disabilities.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. The neighborhood surrounding our school is a very impoverished neighborhood, and I don't want anything to stand in the way of their dreams. My students deserve to have access to the same educational materials as everyone else and my hope is to provide that for them!
My Project
My students will use these new leveled library books for independent reading and writing. As my students grow they need to have an array of books to choose from at their appropriate level. Our classroom library is very small, but the love of reading in our classroom is growing!
I want to keep the motivation going by allowing our students the choice of what they will read.
Students get frustrated when books are too hard or bored when books are too easy. I want to be able to provide a wide variety of those "just right" books to encourage reading in the classroom.
