Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low income, highly diverse neighborhood I face different challenges everyday. Getting my students to be engaged is not one of them! My second graders have a love for reading that is evident daily.
Reading opens up the world for my students, these students who do not get many opportunities in their life get to explore different ones through books.
These students amaze me daily. Their eagerness to read and grow as learners is inspiring. Their ability to show up every day and work hard shows what wonderful leaders and contributors to the community they are going to be. These students inspire me and I want to keep inspiring them!
My Project
My students have gained a love for reading this year. They enjoy books through multiple medias and are fortunate enough to have technology in our classroom. Unfortunately, the technology grant we received did not allow for the purchase of headphones to help support their learning.
Listening to books has been so beneficial to the growth in reading, especially for my English Language Learners.
Having the headphones to support this growth would make a huge difference in their reading and the engagement they have in class.
My class will use the headphones to listen to books online. Having the headphones will allow multiple students to listen to books of their interest on their own and work independently.
