Stephen Hawking said, "Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you just want to pursue a career in the twenty-first century, basic computer programming is an essential skill to learn." Even if you’re not planning a career in computer science, learning to code is important because it teaches you how to problem-solve and think.
My students are highly capable, engaged learners from diverse populations, whose enthusiasm is contagious.
This year has presented a unique set of challenges with virtual and hybrid learning. One of these has been the lack of sound quality during our daily Google Meets. Despite trying a multitude of setups, students tell me they are often unable to hear me clearly. The Airpods will help connect me to my students and students to their peers, as they continue to learn and grow during this uncertain and unprecedented time.
My Project
Technology is transforming every industry, thus making computer science part of a well-rounded education. Yet, even though coding is the new literacy, many students do not have the opportunity to learn programming in school. The current COVID-19 pandemic forced us to shift to a remote, online and hybrid learning environment, where students do not have access to the equipment we normally use. The biggest challenge during this time has been communication, specifically sound quality for virtual students.
The overarching goal is to provide all students, especially those from under-represented populations, a foundation in coding, regardless of the educational setting we find ourselves in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Apple Airpods will allow us to communicate more effectively during our daily Google Meets.
