A Better Viewing Experience

My Students

The students in the Transition program at my school are very special students. Transition students are students in the special education program who have previously been taught in self-contained life skills classes that focused on life skills needed for daily life. These students will be earning certificates upon graduation showing that they have completed 12+ years in school throughout the course of their lives.

Typically, these students were not given the same education as their peers.

Starting this year at my school, they are. Transition students here are now taught the same subjects as their peers, and are being given more opportunities than ever before. Transition students now switch classes just like their peers, attend community service outings, and eat lunch with their peers.

My Project

I teach Social Studies and Interpersonal Relationships to our 40 students each day. As part of our Social Studies curriculum, my students watch CNN 10 and we discuss current events. Right now, students need to crowd around my laptop to watch. This is difficult for our visually impaired students.

In addition, my laptop is the only computer in our class.

If I have a meeting and need my computer, the Para cannot show the video scheduled for that class so some of the students will miss out.

An additional laptop and a monitor would make our classes more accessible for all.
