A Better Life by Standing up During Class!

My students need 5 standing desks. I have 5 in a classroom of 45 desks and there is a waiting line to use them each class. I would like to double that number to 10.

My Students

I teach IB Economics (the dismal science), Finance and AP Psychology. I have 40 students per class and 40 sitting desks. I found a donor 2 years ago to help me purchase 5 standing desks. They are a hit, kids run to class to have the opportunity to stand up during class.

I teach all advanced classes and I have amazing students.

My classes are packed and there is a waiting list to get in. They understand how hard it is to sit in hard chairs all day and stay awake and pay attention. They want to learn and I want to make their classroom environment more conducive to learning.

My Project

My students would be able to get up out of their hard plastic desk and stand up during class. The Hyperactive/ADHD students really love these desks because they can fidget without disrupting the class. The top students love them because they seem to do better on tests when standing and staying more alert. The athletes like it because they feel better at practice after not sitting all day.

This project will allow me and my students to have a better classroom experience.

They will be able to stay in shape and learn at the same time. We will be building better adults while fighting childhood obesity.
