This year I will be working with eager to learn, 5-10-year-olds in a remediation/intervention setting. Our school is located in an area where more than three-quarters of our students come from low-income households and often have difficult including educational materials into their daily routines. Despite the hardships that many students face, these children enter my classroom every day with a smile on their faces and pockets full of questions.
My students are curious, full of wonder, enthusiastic, creative, and are always ready to explore the world around them.
They find joy in the smallest things, such as reading a new book, opening a new box of crayons and using markers to write on the board. They "light up" each time they learn a new letter, write a new word or identify snap words in their books. They see school as a great adventure where they can share, investigate, experiment, and learn.
My Project
Reading and writing are important skills that help us become life-long learners. We have tackled the task of learning and mastering our letters and their corresponding sounds, but now we need to build upon this knowledge.
We each have our own stories to tell but putting what is in our heads onto paper is difficult.
Blending and segmenting activities will help us connect our thoughts to create words that show meaning and tell stories.
These CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) materials will allow the students to visually see how words are created. They will be able to practice using their knowledge of letters and sounds to read and write words. These activities will also help increase their reading and writing fluency, helping them become stronger students in all subject areas.
