My students are considered to be "At-Risk". They walk into the classroom, and they are so excited to see all the materials they get to use every day. They enjoy exploring and creating by using their imaginations. They love to build and create with the blocks.
I have an AM and a PM class.
Each class has 10 students who qualified through our preschool screening, and the other 5 have Individualized Education Plans (IEP). The At-Risk students may have an IEP for speech services only. The students are here for 2 1/2 hours, 5 days a week.
My Project
The materials I selected will help my PreK students gain more pre-academic skills. We know that children learn best through play, and these materials will help my students learn letters and numbers during their free choice play.
I have selected several manipulatives that I feel will help with pre-academic skills.
For example, I will put the sorting pie in my dramatic play. The students can sort the food. I can also put it in my math center, and they can sort by color.
All of the materials will help my students gain more Kindergarten readiness skills! I want to give my students an advantage to their pre-academics, and it will all be done through play.
