Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a blended classroom that consists of a diverse crowd of special needs students, English language learners, and students from the general education population.

My students range in ages from three to five years old.

As a Special Education teacher, I serve a diverse crowd of students with special needs. The students I serve are mostly African-American and Hispanic. My students come from low socioeconomic circumstances. The parents and community try their best to support these students. These students inspire me to be a better teacher and person, and I learn from them daily. The uniqueness each of my students brings to the class is unimaginable.

My Project

My students enjoy working in small groups every day after story time. They say "Yay, it's small groups time!" It's one of their favorite parts of the day. A few of the main skills I try to work on with them during small groups is comprehension questions, sorting and colors as well as their letters and letter sounds.

As an early childhood special needs teacher, I play a crucial role in helping my students develop their language skills.

I am requesting a "Teaching Tub Storage Rack" in order to store all of our letter tubs and the objects that go with the letters. Everyday during circle time we go over a new letter of the alphabet and it helps tremendously when the students have a chance to touch and feel the actual objects of the letter we are going over. I am also requesting "Color Sorting Paint Cans" in order for my students to learn the importance of sorting by size, shape, and color.

I am requesting "Float & Find Alphabet Bubbles" in order to make our discovery/sensory table more exciting! Our students absolutely love the sensory table and there is only so many ways you can use a water table.

Lastly, I am requesting "Learning Letters Activity Centers" in order to be able to work on a variety of letter activities while the students are in small groups. Small groups are so beneficial at this age because it is not only more one-on-one time but it also allows for our students to take charge of their own learning through a hands-on approach. During small groups our students work on taking-turns and sharing, a critical skill for our students to learn at this age.
