My students need more literacy activities, such as sequencing cards, letter tubs, and storytelling materials in order to further develop their interest in reading!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our pre-kindergarten classroom is the only pre-k classroom in our school building which services children up to the 8th grade. It is such a great building to be in because our little ones are preparing for a smooth transition into kindergarten. Many of our children will attend this school up until they are ready to transition into high school.
Our students receive food bags to take home every Friday in order to support our children, as well as their families.
You should see how excited the children are every Friday when they know they get a bag to take home!
Our classroom LOVES to learn and we are always looking for fun and innovative ways to really support the needs of our students! We particularly enjoy the arts, such as music, dance, and dramatic play! Of course we also work hard at developing our literacy, math and science skills!
We want our children to enjoy coming to school each day and really develop their love of learning.
My Project
My students this year are really interested in stories this year and I want to develop that interest into creating stories of their own!
The felt boards and felt pieces would be a wonderful addition to our classroom because it allows the children to take familiar stories and reenact them; I then would challenge them to create an alternate ending.
How fun would it be to see their creativity and imaginations in action? I would LOVE the opportunity to use these materials to foster their love of literacy! The skills that they would develop are endless!
The literacy tubs would be a wonderful tool for us as we are learning about each letter! They will be a nice "hands-on" material for them to really explore letters and their sounds. As a teacher we are constantly looking for objects from home or the store that we can bring in to show our students and allow them to make those real-world connections. These literacy tubs would by a nice way for us to develop those same concepts in an easily accessible way!
