Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember playing with your friends when you were 8 & 9 years old? We'd play for hours building hands-on creations with our Legos, Lincoln Logs and anything we could find to help us create. My second graders are no different! They are a diverse bunch, but their desire to inquire and be hands on is thriving!
Boys and girls make progress on the questions posed through science and engineering practices trying to figure out a scientific idea.
When given materials, their imaginations run wild. They work to explain a phenomenon. Their cooperative skills soar as well working to solve problems together.
My Project
Having hands-on materials such as Legos, Magna-Tiles and Lincoln Logs will help my students inquire, discover, and solve science and engineering based lessons.
Providing tools that support an engineering mindset to meet the new standards in NGSS will help bring my classroom into 21st Century learning.
These tools will help my students make sense of phenomena in the natural and designed world and use engineering to solve problems.
Learning to explain phenomena and solve problems is a key reason students engage in the 3D components of NGSS. These materials will allow me, the teacher, to monitor on-going progress toward understanding.
