A 21st Century Art Room

My Students

Art is essential to the well-being of many of the students I teach.

My classroom is a haven for them; they enjoy the relaxed air and the changing materials.

Together, we create a lot of amazing artwork that expresses feelings, builds skills, and fosters camaraderie. The students in my school are eager to learn new skills and ideas. They are very creative and highly engaged learners. They thrive on new information, materials, ​and concepts. They push the boundaries of their art education as far as they can. They accept new challenges with aplomb!

My school has a wide variety of students. Many languages are spoken in our district and our school reflects that diversity. Many students are from divorced homes. Some have special needs. We are a McKinney-Vento Receiving School as well, which means a percentage of our students are homeless.

One thing that is common to every child here, however, is an eagerness to be the best artists and students that they can be. I am continuously inspired by their insights and interpretations, and the work that my students are doing is of a very high caliber.

My Project

Digital art has become deeply important in the repertoire of art teachers across the world because much of the art being made these days is in digital form. The classroom equipment in my new school, however, hasn't changed with the millennium. And that was twenty years ago.

I am asking for an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil so that my students can learn to use digital media in their artmaking.

With out digital art skills, I fear they will not possess the skills needed to thrive in today's art world, nor will they be prepared to go to an arts based program in college. Digital art skills are a necessity, and I am hoping you agree!
