My Students

My students have a hunger to gain new experiences and learn about different cultures. They are resilient and fight for their right to an excellent education. My students come from all different backgrounds and education levels, and constantly strive to learn despite the struggles they face in and out of school.

While some students may experience trauma or circumstances beyond their control, they come to school ready to show their grit and excellence every day.

They appreciate all the support given to them by our school community!

My Project

I teach at a Title I high school where all students receive free and reduced lunch. My cohorts of 9th grade students are scholars with the highest need as they have the lowest reading scores. Currently, my students don't have enough books at their reading level because they are all in the range of Beginning Reader to 6th grade reading level.

In order to help students grow and support them in reaching grade level, we need to provide them with a high volume of texts in my reading intervention course.

In their English classes they read at grade level, but in order to increase their Lexile reading levels, they must read a high volume of texts at their own level. We must ensure that every student has engaging material for them to learn and improve. Please help us provide students with reading materials they deserve!
