Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, energetic and look for opportunities to apply their new found mathematical knowledge in the real world. They help bring to life a sometimes difficult subject and strive to help each other succeed.
We are a small school in the inner city of Bridgeport, Connecticut with limited resources, but we are a community that supports a strong commitment of service to others above self, both inside and outside of the school.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and some don't have opportunities outside of school to have experiences that will enhance and enrich their education. I want to give them that opportunity they deserve.
My Project
My students often ask me to help them make the connection between mathematical topics and the "real world", especially in our naval science and first responder themed school. Sometimes this is difficult because their experiences are limited to just their neighborhood or town. Visiting the 9/11 Memorial Museum will show them how mathematics is applied not only in the rebuilding but also in the devastation of the buildings and its global impact.
Your donation for our admission into the museum will help my students understand the enormity and importance of 9/11 and allow them to gain an experience that they may never obtain.
Experiences like this one can help shape their lives. Please help me give them an experience that is not only important to our history, but their future.
