I am an elementary teacher making the move to Junior High. I am going to be teaching 8th grade math and am needing to update math essentials I will be using in my classroom. The students I will be teaching come from a variety of backgrounds. Most of them are minorities and come from low-income families.
These tools will allow me to engage students in real-world problem solving and support their needs as we master the 8th grade curriculum.
Students need a variety of strategies to learn and these tools will allow me to teach in such a way. The posters, geo shapes and number line cards to display concepts will help visual and tactile learners. They will also serve as a reminder of concepts we have learned in class. The math project books will allow for critical thinking and problem solving using real life situations. The white boards will be critical in teaching students slope, rise over run, coordinates, etc.
