This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a Music teacher in the public school system of Camden City NJ, where most children come from low-income households.
My middle school students have an innate ability for music and love being creative.
They are craving instrumental lessons, however, band has been taken out of the elementary/middle school levels. This, in turn, is causing the high school level bands to suffer.
Since I am their Music Teacher, I'd love to teach piano to them, in order to incorporate an instrument, besides their voices, therein, satisfying their wants and building upon their creativity. They are eager to learn and excited about the possibility.
My Project
If this project goes through, I will be able to teach my students music (piano) lessons during their class time, using the keyboards. Since we will not have enough keyboards for each student, I hope to put the keyboards to use as group lessons, allowing students to have a partners and take turns. This will help with self confidence and support.
My students can take turns and playing and reading the music written.
As we continue working as teams, I hope to showcase my students to the district, and hopefully convince the district to reinstate Band into the middle schools.
