My students are beginning to low intermediate English Language Learners, from all over the world—Haiti, Nepal, Pakistan, Mexico, and El Salvador, just to name a few countries—and they, much to my surprise and delight, have expressed an interest in reading Shakespeare! This excites me and motivates me as a teacher because I love Shakespeare and I believe my students understand how important it is to be familiar with Shakespeare's works. This will provide a strong foundation for their later studies and help them explore human nature and themes that touch their daily lives. My students would struggle with Shakespeare's original Elizabethan language, but they will enjoy his timeless tales with a series of adapted works by Perfection Learning. We are requesting a class set of 30 copies of the title TALES OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE which includes “Romeo and Juliet,” “Much Ado About Nothing,” “Macbeth,” and “The Tempest,” and one Teacher Resource Book which provides literature-based vocabulary, phonics, comprehension, and writing activities. This donation would be an act of charity that keeps giving as this class set could be enjoyed by students year after year. Thank you for sharing your resources with children who want to learn and be the best they can be. They want to be challenged and you can help by bringing the Bard to their Brooklyn classroom. A class set of books along with the teacher resource book would cost $196.45.
