A lot of our state testing requires students to be able to read and interpret data. We take full advantage of lab time and feel it is extremely important that students receive these hands-on learning opportunities. I personally work with inclusion courses that include students with a disability.
Our school is set in a rural setting.
At one time we had a thriving economy with factories being near by, but as time as passed, the remainder of the businesses as far as factories/plants go, are shutting down. Loss of local business has lead to the loss of much of our funding. There are a large number students considered to be economically disadvantaged and/or identified with a disability in the classes that I teach.
The school itself does have technology such as SmartBoards that would be beneficial with the current project of obtaining a LabQuest and since the package only offers one unit, being able to display it for the entire class would be necessary. As with most kids the more ways we can present information to them, the more likely they are to learn the concept. The student here would benefit greatly from your support.
My Project
My students need the LabQuest Starter Kit. Students would apply concepts they are already learning such as forces, temperature readings, and movement to the LabQuest technology. What the technology does for our students is it creates accurate readings for designed experiments and typically has programs designed for testing applications in science. The technology itself also creates graphic displays of the data that is recorded as the students perform instructed tasks. It is highly beneficial to the students to be able to see the visual and accurate representation of the data. Interpreting the data is also an area where Ohio schools need to focus their attention due to content standards and state testing requirements.
As said previously, the donations towards this project allow students to see visual representations via data of the different tasks they will complete in lab.
It helps with the reading and interpretation of graphs and will also be a new technology for them. Schools that do not have funding issues more than likely have this technology and probably have multiples of the LabQuest in the classroom. Thank you very much for your consideration!
