Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember when English class was quiet and everyone was reading the same book and writing reports about what they read? What if you entered a room and found all of the students engaged in book talk conversations using academic language to probe deeper thinking and push each other to the next level?
Many of our students and their families are new to this country and its traditions and to the emphasis this nation places on a child's education.
Some of our students have been out of school for a year or more and require additional social-emotional and academic support.
My Project
Your wonderful donations will allow me to strategically place anchor charts created by my students or by myself around the room for constant reference by me and the students. They will be assigned Post-it by color to go to particular reading groups (grouped by reading level) and will focus on strategies like elaboration prompts, and other academic strategies taught in class to build their reading and writing skills within the Common Core.
Students will use the different color pens, Post-it and chart paper to turn their collaborations into interactive ideas posted around the room. The stools will be used during collaborative grouping.
My students need a fair chance.
Your donations will provide sets of chart paper to be use as part of the creative collaboration and placed as anchor charts strategically around the room to be use as a reference tool. The color Post-it and different size index cards will allow the groups to work more collaboratively. The constant reference to lessons taught and the constant practice on the variety of strategies will prove to be beneficial to their academic success.
